Summer is coming to an end on the Mainland with cooler, rainier days announcing fall season for most of our 50 states. NOT so for Hawaii. Hawaii vacation in sunny warm weather all year round becomes again the top topic for family vacation plans for this fall and winter season. Our '10 Best Hawaii vacation tips' were put together to make sure you and your family will enjoy your best Hawaii vacation on your next trip to Hawaii.
When preparing our today's Hawaii travel and vacation tips and ideas, I became fully aware that this is actually what our 'Best Hawaii Vacation Blog' is all about: sharing our travel and vacation tips with all of you who are getting ready to visit Hawaii. It got me by surprise that we already listed 63 posts under 'Hawaii vacation tips' among them such interesting topics (randomly chosen) as:
So, what's so different with our today's post from all the 'old' Hawaii vacation tips? I'd say Hawaii visitors will get basic, easy-to-follow Hawaii vacation tips at one glance. Here are our '10 Best Hawaii vacation tips' to make your Hawaii vacation easier, healthier, safer and cheaper:
1. Take snacks with you to the beach or on your island trips
Snacks like homemade sandwiches at your vacation home kitchen or granola bars, trail mix or fresh fruit. Don't count on finding restaurants or affordable food places on your island adventures. Bring your snacks, safe big, and of course, you won't go hungry!
2. Take plenty of bottled water with you
when going to the beach or on road trips around the Hawaiian islands. To buy a single bottle of water on the road will cost you much more than a 6-pack at WalMart or worse, you might not even find a place to buy water. The hot Hawaii sun can dehydrate you within 1/2 hr!
3. Stay away from soft drinks
With their high sugar content, soft drinks will make you actually make you thirstier, plus bottled water is generally healthier and cheaper.
4. Get a small cooler on your Hawaii vacation
Most Hawaii hosts offer small coolers to their guests anyways. If not, ask them. Otherwise when you stay at a hotel, we recommend to buy a small cooler at WalMart for about $5. It will keep your food and water cool + fresh, especially when on road trips or on a hidden beach.
5. Stay out of Hawaii sun between 11am - 2pm
When hanging out on our Hawaiian beaches, try to find a shady spot to settle down, especially during midday hours. You can even find at WalMart a cheap beach umbrella for sun protection. A hat (best with neck protection) and high SPF sunscreen are a must for Hawaii. Always reapply sunscreen after swimming, even when sunscreen says 'waterproof' on label. Make sure that your kids stay protected from strong Hawaiian sun. One can even get a sunburn in Hawaii from sun reflection!
6. Don't keep valuables in your car
I lot of Hawaii visitors think valuables are safe under their front seats when they go to the beach or for a hike. Unfortunately they are not. This is where thieves always look first. Carrying a backpack will help you keep your valuables safe.
7. Visit Hawaii restaurants at lunch time
Just like on the Mainland, visiting a restaurant in Hawaii at lunch is a great idea for vacation and can save you lots of money. The amount of food you will get is mostly the same as for a dinner entree at night but it's mostly 1/3 or even half the price of the dinner meal. No reservation is necessary and often you don't have to wait for your favorite ocean front table. If it's a very popular restaurant, you might want to show up before 12 noon to avoid the busy lunch crowd.
8. Carry your Hawaiian Island map
and your Hawaiian Island Revealed guidebook with you on road trips, so you will always know know where you are and what to see and to do in the area. Never go on a road trip without your bathing suit, a towel and a beach mat!
9. Talk to Locals
Talk to your Hawaii vacation rental hosts, shop assistants at markets or when you meet people. They happily share with you: best beaches in the area, affordable local restaurants, farmers markets for fresh fruits and more.
10. Hang loose, sit back and relax
Finally, relax and let go of your Mainland tension. No tight schedules in Hawaii! Give yourselves plenty of time to enjoy the ocean waves, the balmy breezes, a good book or just do NOTHING!

You want to know how our twittering is going? After our recent joining of Twitter and our call for 'Twitter about Hawaii Join us', we owe our visitors an update on our new Twitter career of Best Hawaii Vacation blog. Honestly, I had never expected to get on the Twitter track so fast.
We are now following over 100 Twitter accounts, actually mostly Hawaii based Twitterers. It could be many more, if we wouldn't be so selective. Remember as pointed out on 'Twitter about Hawaii', our main purpose is NOT the one of Ashton Kutcher or Britney Spears to accumulate the most Twitter followers.
On the opposite, I'd like to follow relevant Hawaii related tweets which I consider of value for our Best Hawaii Vacation visitors. I am very happy to see such Hawaii travel related sites like Hawaiian Airlines, Alaskan Airlines, Beat of Hawaii, Honolulu Star Bulletin and so many other Hawaii sites as our Twitter followers.
This allows me to stay closely connected with Hawaii happenings, events and news through daily tweets from my followers and at the same time spread the word with my own Hawaii tweets beyond the 'What are you doing question?' Follow my daily tweets on the side bar in my Twitter window.
Last but not least, much mahalo to Evelyn from Homespun Honolulu blog, the hostess of the monthly Carnival of Aloha, who started an avalanche among the Hawaii twitterers by posting my Twitter article in the top of her 'Tweet Tweet Rocking Carnival'. If intersted in Hawaii, hop over, you will find lots of exciting Hawaii related articles.
The following weeks will have to prove the power of Twitter for Best Hawaii Vacation blog. Looking forward to your tweet tweets. Aloha, Pua @PuaHawaii + Hawaii Vacations
Yes, Twitter mania has reached us too. Who wants to miss out on its benefits? After decent reserach I noticed it's a great way to receive daily updates on Hawaii and share the valuable ones with you, our blog visitors interested in their best Hawaii vacation deals. The start is made. Within a short time of two days we got 27 followers, mainly from Hawaii related businesses like Hawaiian Airlines, which promise daily tweets about air line specials.
Admittedly, I don't intend with my Twitter account to compete with Ashton Kutcher and his record of over a million followers. To be honest I really don't see any sense in joining Britney Spears or Ashton Kutcher on Twitter like other blog visitors who proudly report when they receive their follow notice from Britney Spears or Ashton Kutcher. Guys, get down to earth again. Being followed by Ashton Kutcher on Twitter is not like winning the lottery neither is to twitter like Ashton Kutcher. Ashton probably pays somebody to do the twitter business for him anyways. Oh well that's the big difference of us to the celebrities.
Bottom line of this 'Twitter about Hawaii Join Us' post is that I'd like to invite anybody who has great Hawaii vacation and travel info to share with Best Hawaii Vacation blog to join me on twitter. I myself will not go overboard with tweets but you will find my daily Hawaii tweet on my side bar under the 'Follow me on Twitter' invitation. So, let's twitter! Aloha, Pua Hawaii Vacation

After a warm Mele Kalikimaka to all our Best Hawaii Vacation blog visitors on December 20 and the good news of the reopening of Mauna Kea Beach Hotel on the Kohala Coast of the Big Island a few days later, it's time for spreading 'Aloha' for the New Year 2009.
When you are in love with Hawaii and the islands, you pick up as many Hawaiian phrases as you can. As 'Mahalo' and 'Aloha' already come easily over your lips, let's practice a new, a little bit more complicated phrase: Hau'oli Makahiki Hou or Happy New Year. If you belong to the lucky ones who currently enjoy their Hawaii vacation on a warm white sand beach sipping a Mai Tai, why don't you share this total happiness with friends and people you meet in Hawaii by wishing them 'Hau'oli Makahiki Hou'!
Here are our Hau'oli Makahiki Hou wishes:
May Hawaii become your dream vacation for 2009, with the scents of tropical flowers caressing you and beautiful hula dancers telling their ancient Hawaiian stories for memories of a lifetime!
We thank Kawika and the beautiful Hawaiian girls from WahineStyle for their photo support of our Hawaii blog throughout the year 2008. Roxy, our today's Hawaii post girl keeps this nice tradition alive for the New Year 2009.
I guess a 2nd blog birthday is reason enough to celebrate. All our fellow Hawaii bloggers know that it takes commitment and dedication to keep writing quality articles about Hawaii for tourists who plan their special Hawaii vacation. Thanks to all of you who visited our Best Hawaii Vacation blog in the past, made the blog more interesting with comments and guest posts and even followed our invitation to Vote for the Best Hawaii Article.
We could have had probably a bigger outcome by advertising our invitation to vote for the best article in each of our blog articles which followed the post on June 12. That's what marketing is all about. Looks like I was more concerned about writing more Hawaii content related articles like 'Big Island or Kaui?' and forgot to promote the vote article. Hey, nobody is perfect. Next year I will remember what to do for extra promotion to get more blog visitors involved in choosing the best article on our vacation blog.
Here is the result of our best Hawaii article vote:
-Mostly bloggers and vacation rental site owners from Hawaii Big Island joined the vote.
-We would have loved to see more of our Hawaii blogger friends from Oahu, Kauai and Maui. -Most popular articles and favorites you voted for were related to Hawaii beaches.
-We posted the Hawaii Articles with double votes in the top.
Most popular articles chosen by Best Hawaii Vacation Blog visitors
Much mahalo to all of you. Hope many of our blog visitors will visit your blog or site, when they find it here. Please, stay in touch with our Best Hawaii Vacation Blog, so we can hopefully celebrate in a year another blog birthday again and together. Mahalo and aloha, Pua Hawaii Vacations
Can anybody believe that another year has passed since our 1st Hawaii Blog Anniversary in July 2007! Well, time flies by when you are having fun, Keoki likes to say. Well, the full year is not over yet but it's time to reflect and prepare our blog birthday celebration. In this post, we are taking a few moments to recount what we have achieved during the past year of blogging about Hawaii and what we intend to do for celebration.
First of all, we'd like to say 'Mahalo' to all our Best Hawaii Vacation Blog visitors, to those who were dropping in to read up on a certain post, but more so to those who visited our blog regularly and even left comments when they felt they had something to contribute to our article. We are happy to name a few right here: Bobbie from The Right Blue, Charles from WaveShoppe and Evelyn from HomespunHonolulu. Thanks for having your steady support in our Hawaii MyBloglog family.
We also owe big thanks to our Best Hawaii Vacation guest authors, Hawaii bloggers or visitors, who shared their Hawaii stories. With their article contributions, our Hawaii blog became more entertaining by talking about Hawaii from a different perspective and with a different style. We definitely encourage everybody who is in love with Hawaii to join our guest authors. If you have a nice Hawaii story to tell - no specials skills required! - please, let us know. We will publish it with a short bio and link to your website.
OK let's get to the point celebrating our Hawaii blog birthday with all of you. Last time when celebrating our 1st Blog Birthday we did not ask for presents. On the opposite, we gave everybody, who left a comment, a link to their site with a short description what their Hawaii blog is all about. This time we decided to write our birthday invitation early, so all those busy bloggers or Hawaii site owners or Hawaii visitors have enough time to join the fun.
How can you join our 2nd Best Hawaii Vacation Blog Birthday Bash?
It's very easy. You simply tell us which one of our Hawaii blog articles you like best. Finish the following sentence "My favorite article at Best Hawaii Vacation blog is ..."
What will you get?
Everybody who leaves a comment on this post or provides his vote for best article by email, will get a link on our Birthday Bash Post on July 27, 2008 (sorry no adult sites).
What will we get?
Hopefully we will get some good feedback which Hawaii stories our blog visitors liked best and want to hear more about in future blog posts.

Mahalo and aloha, Pua Hawaii Vacations Summer Deals p.s. It was a tough decision this time which of the beautiful Hawaiian girls from WahineStyle we wanted to have as our special Hawaii birthday girl. We chose Kahiau on the beach. What do you think? Related Articles
The Hawaii blog community is growing rapidly. It's fun to follow Hawaiian bloggers what they have to say about their subject of expertise and passion. Believe me keep the blogging alive and have something interesting and attractive to say can be challenging. This is where the love to Hawaii and to the Hawaiian people becomes a major motivation.
Evelyn from Homespun Honolulu shows this love with posting about Honolulu related topics plus she takes the challenge to host our Hawaii Aloha Blog Carnival on a regular basis. It's quite surprising what variety of blog posts got submitted by Hawaii bloggers for the latest Hawaii blog carnival 'Taking Time to Smell the Plumeria'. From watching the stars over Mauna Kea summit to the Meaning of Aloha, Thoughts on Fishing, Upcountry Maui, Best Hawaii Vacation Money Saving Tips and much more.
Aloha everybody, Since the start of our Hawaii blog in July 2006, we have always been welcoming everybody who wanted to share his or her experience about Hawaii, Hawaii vacation and Hawaii travel. Today we'd like to renew this invitation to other Hawaii related blog owners or Hawaii visitors. Write an article about what you love in Hawaii (sorry no advertising!), submit it by email and upon approval, we will publish it on our Best Hawaii Vacation Blog with a short author 'bio' and link to your URL.
In addition, you and your URL will be added here, at our guest authors' page. We would like to say 'Mahalo' to all of our guest authors for their Hawaii article contributions, which showed their knowledge of and love for the Hawaiian Islands. To be fair to everybody, we list our guest writers in alphabetical order with link to their blog or site URL and in what categories you can find their article(s). Number of articles shows behind name. In the future, we consider listing our Hawaii Guest Authors according to the highest number of articles...the author with most Hawaii articles will show in the top of our list.
Get your name and your blog listed here. If you have something nice to say about Hawaii, Hawaii vacation and travel, don't be shy, let us know what you got. Hawaii articles with photos are most welcome! Everybody can write. Just let your heart speak.
Dear Best Hawaii blog visitors, As visits to our Hawaii blog are steadily increasing with the number of posts we are writing about how to spend your best Hawaii Vacation, we noticed that it's getting harder to find easily the answers to your Hawaii questions, like Horseback Riding in Hawaii.
You may use our Hawaii blog categories in the bottom of our sidebar to help you find the Hawaii vacation topic of your choice. It all depends on what category we added the post and where you are looking for your answer. Categories have to be limited to a certain number and certain Hawaii topics in order to make blog navigation possible for our visitors. Naturally, that implies we have to sacrifice some potential new categories.
Here is the solution. Go all the way to the very bottom of our Hawaii blog (footer!) where you find a Google blog search bar. Type in your Hawaii search keywords, click our blog for search (it's already set by default on the blog), and with one click, you will see all the blog posts on our Hawaii blog related to your Hawaii search term and also Google search results, if you'd be interested in those.
Have fun searching our Hawaii blog with your searches for Hawaii vacation and travel to the Hawaiian Islands. If you did not find what you were looking for, why don't you leave us a comment with your Hawaii vacation question. We will deal with it in one of our next Best Hawaii Vacation blog posts.
Mahalo for visiting our Hawaii Blog and spreading the word to friends who are planning a visit to Hawaii. Aloha, Pua Hawaii Vacations

How to leave a comment on Best Hawaii Vacation Blog
Mahalo to all our readers for following us on our blogging journey on how to make your trip to the Hawaiian Islands your Best Hawaii Vacation. We were proud when we were able to announce our Best Hawaii Vacation Blog1st Birthday in July. We told you in 'About Us' that ''we'd like to close the gap between visitors and vacation hosts. Our Hawaii blog is about people's experiences, ours and our blog visitors and Hawaii residents, and what it takes for your Best Hawaii Vacation. Little things contributing to the big picture of a unique Hawaii vacation."
Now, we would like to take the next step...evolving the blog from a good read to a great place to say your opinion and hear others about Hawaii and Hawaii vacation related topics by leaving comments. In the past, we noticed again and again that the biggest obstacle for readers is that they don't know how to leave a comment.
Here are Step by Step Instructions to 'Post a Comment'
1. How get to 'Post a comment' window
There are two ways to make it to Post A Comment window: When you are on the blog index http://kohalacoastweb.blogspot.com/, you scroll down the posts till you find a post where you want to comment. Under the post you will find the number of comments. Just click the word 'Comments'. A new window for your comment will open.
The new window shows a box where you can type in your text comment. When leaving a website in that box, it needs to be in html code in order to show as a link. If you cannot do html, it's still OK to leave the URL. Readers can copy and paste it into their browser. The better way to leave your URL will be with 'Choose Identity'.
Under the text box, is a note for you: "Comment moderation has been enabled. All comments must be approved by the blog author." That means you will not see you comment immediately. As a blog owner we have to protect our blog content from spam and not blog related comments.
3. Word verification
Retype the letters you see in the box you see. This is another way to prevent spam.
4. Choose Identity
This is the biggest tool for those who take advantage of commenting to get the word out about their site or blog. Most important, click the circle for or the words 'name/URL' (not Google/Blogger!). Now the display shows Name and Web Page URL. Add your name or your business name and your URL with http://. Your comment will be displayed with that name as a link to your homepage. Interested readers can visit your site or blog right then and there! This is a great free ad for your Hawaii business.
5. Publish your comment
After Publish Comment you will see in the top of your comment in green typing that the comment will be approved by the author. If you cannot see the green typing (very rare but happens, even Google is not perfect), do word verification a second time and publish. If we get your comment twice, not a problem we will only publish once.
